'Arrogant' Cricket Australia slammed in damning report

Former Australian captain Steve Waugh blames lack of punishment for ball tampering scandal 'Arrogant' Cricket Australia slammed in damning report

Former Australian cricket coach and Macquarie Sports Radio commentator Darren Lehmann is supporting calls to reduce the suspensions handed to Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.

Cricket Godfather Allan Border described the bans as "excessive" and declared he would even be happy to see Smith, Warner and Cameron Bancroft given the green light to play worldwide cricket this summer following a cultural review that deemed CA administrators must share responsibility for the scandal which has rocked the game to its core.

Then-captain Smith and his deputy Warner received a one-year ban from worldwide and state cricket while opening batsman Bancroft was suspended for nine months.

"With this new information, common sense, common decency, basic fairness, proportionality, which we've talked about from the outset, and natural justice demand that the punishment is reduced".

Smith and Warner are seven months into their ban and will become eligible for Australia selection only in April next year.

The ball-tampering scandal was also seen as a watershed for the sport in Australia with CA launching the root-and-branch review and ordering a charter governing player behaviour.

David Peever, CA chairman, said some good would come from the 42 recommendations in the report.

"If you're a cricket body in charge of organising the game in Australia, surely you've got to be ahead of the game".

US economy grew at strong 3.5 percent rate in Q3
The housing market contracted at its steepest pace in more than a year in the third quarter, also dimming the economy's outlook. During the past 4 quarters, GDP has grown 3.0 percent. "The stock market is going to go up and down", he said.

The report said the governing body was perceived as "arrogant" and "controlling" and treated its elite players like commodities, allowing "alpha-male" egos to develop a win-at-all-costs approach.

Dyer and Nicholson refused to speculate on what course of action it would take if CA rejected calls for Smith, Warner and Bancroft to return to action.

"They've imposed these 12 months bans on the likes of Smith and Warner, well what ramifications have been given to Mr Sutherland and Mr Howard?"

He likened cricket's relentless pursuit of victory to the Australian banking sector's drive for excessive profits, which has led to revelations that dead people were charged for services that were never provided.

Only 29 per cent of current Australian cricketers chose to have their say in the Ethics Centre's survey which formed the basis of Monday's damning 145-page report, but Roberts was far from put-off by the result.

Dyer said Bancroft, Smith and Warner had endured "public humiliation" since their bans, and were "contrite". "I'd like to see Mark Taylor stand up as chairman of Cricket Australia", he said. "Let them play", Dyer said.

Terming the incident as a ridiculous mistake committed by the players, Waugh, however, said that the matter was blown out of proportion. There could have been more help but they certainly didn't just leave us hanging either.

Australia paceman Josh Hazlewood says CA's stance on the banned trio should be accepted.
