Trump insists Trump Tower meeting 'totally legal'

Trump attacks report that he’s worried about son’s exposure to Mueller inquiry Trump: US Media 'Very Dangerous & Sick'

The younger Mr. Trump had testified to lawmakers that his father never knew about his meeting in June 2016, which took place to potentially get dirt on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

President Donald Trump has been urged to stop tweeting about the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Trump's top advisers and several Russians, a source familiar with discussions tells CNN.

He concludes the tweet by saying, "I did not know about it!"

Trump unleashed particular fury at reports that he was anxious about the Trump Tower meeting attended by Donald Trump Jr. and other senior campaign officials. Veselnitskaya wanted the meeting so they could talk about lifting Russian adoptions and possibly lifting sanctions if Trump were to win the election, while Trump Jr. expected useful information against Clinton.

Trump's admission that his son's 2016 Russian meeting was to get information on Clinton runs counter to the narrative he has previously pushed about the meeting.

Amid public uproar over the meeting, the president's son was forced to release follow-up statements, ultimately acknowledging that the meeting's true goal had been to get dirt about Hillary Clinton from a lawyer he had been told was working for the Russian government.

Trump's July 2017 comments came before we knew he was involved in drafting that initial misleading response; now Trump is in the public record as having authored it.

The president also referred to the reports that he is concerned about the potential legal problems his son might face as "fake news" and a "complete fabrication".

Lynchburg flood: College Lake Dam failure - emergency evacuations
The original surface area of the lake was reported to be 44 acres and has been reduced to 19 acres due to sedimentation. If the dam fails completely, 17ft (5m) of water could flood it in seven minutes, the National Water Service said.

In that statement, Trump Jr. indicated that the meeting had been "primarily" about the issue of the adoption of Russian children by Americans.

Trump, Jr. himself has offered conflicting statements about the meeting, telling Senate investigators in September that he wanted to "hear [the Russians] out" regarding their "information concerning the fitness, character or qualifications of a presidential candidate".

'We're going to see if we could reconnect with Donald Trump Jr. on all this, because we can't seem to hear him, ' Ingraham told her listeners. "And I have to say, I love it!" The veracity of which is challenged by campaign finance law that states it is illegal for a foreign national to "directly or indirectly, make a contribution or a donation of money or other thing of value".

Trump attorneys say both sides have exchanged proposals for conditions for such a Trump interview.

Whatever his explanation, Trump has consistently said he didn't know about the Trump Tower meeting.

He defended calling the media "The Enemy of the People", and said journalists "purposely cause great division and distrust" and can "cause War!"

Trump's attacks on the special counsel's investigation have been rebuffed by Republican leaders in Congress who have expressed support for Mueller.

He called the "Fake" media "very risky and sick".
