The United States has reimposed economic sanctions on Iran that were originally put in place to pressure the country to limit its nuclear program and later lifted under a 2015 worldwide agreement.
Trump´s contempt for the nuclear deal dates back to his time as presidential candidate and on May 8, he made good on a pledge to pull America out of the worldwide agreement.

Those sanctions target financial transactions that involve US dollars, Iran's automotive sector, the purchase of commercial planes and metals, including gold.
Mr. Erdan, who also heads the Strategic Affairs Ministry, praised the US for reimposing punitive sanctions on Iran that brought back into effect the harsh penalties lifted under the Iran nuclear deal. He said Iran has used "the windfall of newly accessible funds" it received "to build nuclear-capable missiles, fund terrorism, and fuel conflict across the Middle East and beyond".
"Consistent with President Trump's decision, the administration will be reimposing specified sanctions after August 6, the final day of the 90-day wind-down period", the White House said.
He said that "there's no evidence today of a change in their behavior", and in the meantime "we're going to enforce the sanctions".

John Glaser, director of foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute, noted that the USA sees the sanctions "as a tool to pressure Iran to come back to the negotiating table to rehash the nuclear deal on terms more to Trump´s liking".
Most Iranians see United States hostility as a basic fact of life, so their frustration is largely directed at their own leaders for not handling the situation better.
The impact of the return of sanctions has ramped up tensions inside Iran, which has seen days of protests and strikes in multiple towns and cities over water shortages, high prices and wider anger at the political system. "These are the most biting sanctions ever imposed, and in November they ratchet up to yet another level", he wrote in an early morning tweet.

Trump warned that those who don't wind down their economic ties to Iran "risk severe consequences". Russian Federation and China also signed on to the 2015 deal. The International Atomic Energy Agency, which is monitoring the implementation of the deal, has said in 11 consecutive reports that Iran is in compliance and that the agreement has allowed for greater verification of Iran's nuclear activities.
The report said a protest was taking place in Karaj, 50 kilometers (30 miles) west of Tehran, when someone fired from a auto . Global sanctions were lifted under the pact between world powers and Tehran in return for curbs on Iran's nuclear programme.
