While slamming the Centre over the final draft of Assam'sNRC, Bengal CM added that her state will shelter all those people who were not mentioned in the list.

India on Monday effectively stripped four million people in Assam of citizenship, sparking fears of mass deportations of Muslims from the northeastern state.

Over 40 lakh people in Assam have been left out from the the NRC, which is being prepared to identify alleged undocumented migrants in Assam. "We can not contact people in Assam".
The list has included descendants of those whose names were in the 1951 list and also those who were voters in Assam till March 24, 1971.
As per the Assam Accord, an agreement signed by then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1985, all those who can not prove that they came to the north-eastern state before 24 March 1971, will be deleted from electoral rolls, and expelled. The local border police declined to discuss individual cases, but said not all documents furnished by suspected illegal immigrants were valid.
Hundreds of thousands of people fled to India during Bangladesh's war of independence from Pakistan in the early 1970s. A lot of them settled in Assam, which has a near-270 km (165-mile) border with Bangladesh. Applications will be taken till September 30 until which time no one will be considered an illegal immigrant. Many Muslim residents angrily reject the charge of being illegal, saying that not only they, but their grandparents, were born in Assam and they know of no other place.
