Environment Canada issued a smog warning as "high concentrations of pollutants are expected to persist through the night".

This is the worst heat wave residents of Quebec have seen in decades.

Heat waves that last Friday is observed South of the canadian province of Quebec, resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people, writes the Chronicle.info with reference to the Telegraph.

Regional public health director Mylene Drouin said that the majority of the victims were men aged between 53 and 85.

No deaths had been reported for the same period in the neighboring province of Ontario, which has also sizzled under extremely high temperatures. And alarming numbers show a rising death toll in Canada related to the heat.

The temperature is set to rise again in Montreal by the end of the weekend, however, with the humidex expected to reach up to 36 C for Sunday and Monday.
