"Usually when we get heat events it only lasts two or four days", Ms. Hobelman said.

In the US, one woman reportedly died Saturday in Pennsylvania after going into cardiac arrest due to the heat, and a 30-year-old man collapsed while running a race in NY.

Montreal health officials say 11 people have died since the intense heat set in over the weekend, with health authorities in the Eastern Townships region east of Montreal attributing another four deaths to the sweltering temperatures.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

The number of heat-related deaths in Montreal was pegged at six on Tuesday.

He said in the Fox interview that European companies would face sanctions if they traded with Iran now. Tehran, however, vowed on Sunday to foil any U.S. bid to block its oil exports.

In Ontario, a spokeswoman for the coroner's office said it couldn't confirm if there were any heat-related deaths, adding it could take weeks or several months to complete such probes.

Environment Canada has updated its heat advisory for southern Ontario, warning about high humidex values. The heat is going to continue until Thursday, with some relief on Friday when temperatures finally start dipping under 30 C.

He says the new system is more accurate. A high of 26 and low of 14 is expected in Toronto on Friday, Ms. Hobelman said, with a chance of showers and a thunderstorm. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Environment Canada warns this extreme heat event will continue though for most of the week, calling this streak the most significant heat event in the past few years.
