Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in Sochi on Thursday at the opening of the Sochi Summit, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Syrian presidential media office.

"Of course, after this military success, additional conditions have been created to restart a full-format political process", he said at talks with Assad on Thursday.

For its part, Russia's Kremlin manifested that Assad had expressed his willingness to Putin to start a political compromise to solve the Syrian issue, following a meeting with Russian defense and foreign ministers.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that "there were detailed discussions" between the two leaders, who last met in December at a Russian military air base in Syria's coastal province of Latakia.

Putin hailed the Syrian army's victories over militants in Syria, stressing that Syrian soldiers have achieved significant progress recently in boosting the legitimate authority of the Syrian regime.

Putin said the next task is "economic recovery and humanitarian assistance to the people who found themselves in a hard situation".

Iran upbeat on nuclear deal hopes after talks with European Union in Brussels
Zarif's visit to the Russian capital Moscow is part of his worldwide tour, as an effort to save the Iran nuclear deal. The deal's proponents say it is crucial to forestalling a nuclear Iran and preventing wider war in the Middle East.

Russian Federation has been involved in Syria's civil war since September 2015.

Russia, Iran and Turkey have been attempting to resolve the conflict in the talks that started a year ago in Astana in competition with a USA and UN-backed Geneva initiative. "However, we will continue to move steadily toward the peace process and for the sake of peace", Assad stressed.

"And of course, the next task is economic recovery and humanitarian assistance to the people who found themselves in a hard situation", the Russian president said.

Regime forces recaptured Ghouta from rebels last month after a ferocious offensive that displaced tens of thousands, both to government-controlled zones around Damascus and to opposition-held parts of northern Syria.

"During today's meeting we have agreed upon the next steps with the Syrian president related to countering terrorism and the terrorist groups in Syria", Putin said.
