Israeli troops shoot dead Palestinian, 146 hurt

Israelis may be anxious but Palestinians in Gaza have actually been killed Gazans rally near Israel border in blockade-busting campaign

The latest round of Hamas-led riots at the Israel-Gaza border resulted in one Palestinian dead and 170 injured as rioters set gas lines ablaze.

A USA official on the call on Friday declined to call the West Bank an occupied territory. Jordanian, Palestinian, and green Muslim Brotherhood flags flew over crowd.

While numerous president's critics panned his decision to go ahead with moving the Embassy, Trump is being praised in Israel as a friend and ally.

"People will be coming back to work as the embassy branch of the Jerusalem embassy, and I think we're all very happy and excited to be participating in such a historic event", Friedman said.

Alluding to the Passover Hagada text in which Jewish people wish that next year they could celebrate in Jerusalem, the ambassador remarks that "this year, in Jerusalem".

Trump administration officials say the move is simply a recognition of a reality and that they do not in any way intend to prejudge the outcome of final borders or sovereignty in a peace deal.

The protests are building to a climax on May 15, the day Palestinians call the "Nakba" or "Catastrophe", marking the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the conflict surrounding the creation of Israel in 1948.

Since the border rallies began on March 30, at least 47 Palestinians have been killed - and hundreds more injured - by cross-border Israeli army gunfire, according to Health Ministry figures. Critics said it would isolate Israel in the region, and that it presupposes the outcome of any future Israeli-Palestinian agreement about the city.

The Gaza leader of the Hamas militant group has suggested tens of thousands of Palestinians could storm into Israel on Monday.

It said they had already arrived in the regional capital Mbandaka, about 150 km away from the affected area. That would bring the total number of people reporting symptoms to 25, of whom at least 17 have so far died.

Al-Qidra says the medical staff is conducting therapeutic treatment for dozens wounded by Israeli forces, including women and children.

Sinwar said the mass protest would be "decisive", and declared that he and other top Hamas officials were "ready to die" in a campaign to end the blockade.

Rioters were "violent, burning tires and hurling rocks", the IDF said in a statement. Even as hospitals have been overwhelmed by casualties, Israel has denied permission for grievously wounded Palestinians to seek treatment outside Gaza, a callous form of collective punishment that has resulted in deaths and amputations among those hit by fire from the IDF.

Not far from the Gaza border - and visible from the Great March of Return - roughly 50 Israelis demonstrated, carrying and signs and banners, against the siege of Gaza and against the shooting of civilians. Israel has identified other fatalities as members of terrorist groups.

In anticipation of the demonstrations this week, the army have begun reinforcing battalions along expected flash points in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli regime has faced worldwide criticism over its use of live fire. The ruling sparked mass protests around the world, with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas saying that the United States could no longer mediate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Egypt also restricts movement in and out of Gaza.

Hamas has said if the protests "don't achieve their goals", they will continue. More than two-thirds of Gaza residents are descendants of refugees. He said during the Saturday night broadcast that he believes that there could be attempts to disrupt the mid-May celebration of the embassy move, but does not expect casualties.

His decision infuriated the Palestinians, who declared that Washington could no longer play a role as a mediator in the so-called Middle East peace process.
