50 awardees boycott 65th National Film Awards ceremony

President In An Unprecedented Move, President Decides To Present Only 11 National Awards, Recipients Threaten To Boycott Ceremony

A day after the disgusting fiasco at the National Film awards function in Delhi, Bengali director Kaushik Ganguly is still smarting under the blow. "We were all there waiting in the lobby all dressed up and excited about our film being honoured by the.Why weren't we informed about the President's inability to personally give away the awards to all of us?"

It was on Wednesday that the awardees were informed that a large segment of the awards will not be presented by the President.

Ms. Irani spent almost 45 minutes during the dress rehearsal placating the agitated awardees, explaining to them the new protocol established by Mr. Kovind.

Local media quoted communication from the president's office said it was known that the president attends all award functions for not more than an hour. He said that the President's office selected only "stars" for those 11 awards. When the news was out, several winners dashed out a protest letter to the Directorate of Film Festivals saying that they would be not be attending the ceremony, which has been changed at the last minute.

I&B minister Smriti Irani and minister of state for I&B Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore gave rest of the awards to the winners, including Bhanita Das.

But there were some winners whose name plates were placed facing down as they were not at the venue. Only on the day of the rehearsal, we learnt that the Honorable President would be there for an hour and select awards will be given. In the letter we received, we were told that the President will give us the award.

The prestigious National Film Awards, for the first time, witnessed an outrage amongst the winners after approximately 50% of them skipped the ceremony in Delhi. "I don't care who hands out the awards".

Women Sue Charlie Rose, CBS News for Sexual Harassment
The newspaper also reported that CBS managers were warned of Rose's conduct at least three times over a period of 30 years. He later offered her a job with his company, which produced "The Charlie Rose Show" which aired on Bloomberg and PBS.

The function, being held at Vigyan Bhavan, will be organised in two phases this year, the Press Information Bureau said.

"This has been the protocol since he took office".

It goes to the credit of the government that the National Film Awards are well-respected and credible, barring a few aberrations.

In the wake of the controversy, the film industry has been delving into its collective memory for a precedent for what happened on Thursday, where some awards were given by the President and the majority by the minister. And then, when we were told that the Hon'ble President Ram Nath Kovind will hand over only 11 awards, everyone was upset.

He added "Sridevi is this year's victor of the Best Female Actor Award and Vinod Khanna has been named for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his lifetime contribution". They are not called the President's National Awards for no reason.

Shashaa, who has bagged the best female playback singer for "Vaan Varuvaan" from "Kaatru Veliyidai", told IANS: "It's like the thrill of it is gone now".

The National Film Awards, unlike other awards ceremonies, has been considered as the most pristine and unbiased.
