Bochco had received a stem cell transplant from an anonymous 23-year-old in 2014.

"Steven fought cancer with strength, courage, grace and his unsurpassed sense of humor", spokesman Phillip Arnold told THR. "He died peacefully in his sleep [at home] with his family close by". After Walden and Gary Newman took over the studio in 1999 as presidents and later chairmen, they worked together with Bochco on the praised but short-lived FX/20th TV Iraq war drama series Over There, which Bochco co-created with Chris Gerolmo.

Bochco started his career as screenplay writer in the 1970s and later went on to achieved major success with the police drama Hill Street Blues, which ran from 1981 to 1987.

Fellow producer and screenwriter Joss Whedon said: "Absolutely one of the biggest influences on Buffy (and me) was HILL STREET BLUES".

NYPD Blue set another benchmark for television series.

The official argued that the operation is jeopardizing the broader US -led military campaign against the Islamic State group . The SDF delegation has already had a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Bochco was born in New York City on December 16, 1943. This is what Spielberg said about Bochco's passing, "Steve was a friend and a colleague starting with the first episode of Columbo in 1971 that he wrote and I directed".

Bochco won four Peabody Awards and 10 Emmys during his prolific television career, which also included "Doogie Houser" and "Murder One". Bianculli, who has covered the entertainment industry for more than 40 years and runs the website TV Worth Watching, said on Sunday that television police dramas could be divided between those that came before and after "Hill Street Blues". He also created Cop Rock, but even the greats swing and miss from time to time.

Bochco once recalled a fan saying that "Hill Street Blues" was the first TV series that had a memory of. "I thought "NYPD Blue" would open a door to more adult, mainstream programming". In 1989, he co-created Doogie Howser M.D. with David E. Kelley, and the series turned Neil Patrick Harris into a star. He developed The Invisible Man as a sci-fi adventure in 1975, but it was Hill Street Blues which rose him to prominence in the business.

As a result he was able to challenge the narrow censorship framework in which American network television must live and create some of the most memorable and impactful programs of his generation.

He is survived by his third wife, Dayna Kalins, his children Melissa Bochco, Jesse Bochco and Sean Flanagan, and two grandchildren.
