Prince's doctor denies illegal prescription

The star was found to have fentanyl in his system - which is 50 times more powerful than heroin.

Despite an "intensive investigation", Metz said officials were unable to determine who provided Prince with the drugs that killed him, and so were ending their investigation.

Seven days later on April 14, Metz says Prince associate Kirk Johnson contacted Dr. Schulenberg and asked if he could provide Prince with some pain medication as his hip was causing him pain.

Kornfeld told detectives that he had drugs in his backpack to help Prince, but would not have administered them without a doctor present.

The Purple Rain singer died at his estate in April 2016 at the age of 57 after consuming a lethal dose of painkillers. According to The New York Times, Prince was dealing with an opioid addiction - even hiding these narcotic painkillers in bottles of aspirin and other over-the-counter drug containers. The documents didn't indicate whether investigators had pinpointed the source of the fentanyl, and no one has been charged with a crime.

In a strangely timed announcement ahead of Metz's news conference, the Prince estate released and archival recording of "Nothing Compares 2 U" from 1984, along with footage of Prince rehearsing the track.

Metz detailed a two-year investigation, saying there's no evidence any of the people surrounding Prince gave him counterfeit Vicodin or knew he had it.

The investigation into the death of Prince may have a major development.

Metz said Schulenberg started treating Prince two weeks before his death. Schulenberg disputes that, but is paying $30,000 to settle a civil violation.

The settlement "is neither an admission of facts nor liability by Dr. Schulenberg", federal prosecutors said.

Queen's mention of Prince Charles as Commonwealth successor was no flippant remark
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull still supports staying in the Commonwealth under future monarch Prince Charles . Charles, 69, told Commonwealth leaders the body had been "a fundamental feature of my life for as long as I can remember".

Brooker said Schulenberg was not the target of any criminal investigation in Prince's death. A toxicology report obtained by The Associated Press last month revealed high concentrations of fentanyl in his blood - which is used to create counterfeit pills, often sold on the black market.

"There is no evidence that the pill or pills that actually killed Prince were prescribed by a doctor".

She said: "I don't know in my heart of hearts whether he just took too much". Documents unsealed in the case paint a picture of a man struggling with an addiction to prescription opioids and withdrawal symptoms.

Of course, knowledge about Prince is helpful, but that alone won't get you the job.

Schulenberg had prescribed the Percocet to Prince's bodyguard, Kirk Johnson, as a cover for Prince.

The geriatrician previously told authorities he prescribed oxycodone to Prince confidant Kirk Johnson so the musician could hide his painkiller problem.

"I am mindful that is a most unusual and extraordinary case involving a world famous celebrity", Metz said.

Johnson's attorney, F. Clayton Tyler, said Thursday's decision on criminal charges affirms Johnson's innocence.

After his death, close friends of Prince said they didn't believe the musician - a Jehovah's Witness and proponent of clean leaving - was abusing drugs.
