A Washington state woman is suing an Idaho fertility doctor after discovering through an online ancestry website that the man had secretly fathered her.

Mortimer allegedly lied about finding a sperm donor that matched the couple's specifications, which were for a college educated male with brown hair and blue eyes, and used his own DNA instead. That is, until she informed her parents, who remembered the doctor, according to the Daily Beast.

Last week, Rowlette filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Idaho against Mortimer; his wife, Linda McKinnon Mortimer; and Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates of Idaho Falls, seeking $10 million in damages for fraud, medical negligence, battery and several other charges related to the alleged deception.

Mortimer told the family at the time that he used the father's sperm along with an anonymous donor they picked out, but the family claims that didn't happen. The suit alleges Mortimer diagnosed Fowler with "a low sperm count and a low sperm mortality" and diagnosed Ashby with a tipped uterus.

Michael Wheiler, a lawyer representing Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates of Idaho Falls, said the health care professionals who now provide services there were not involved in the practice at the time the allegations against Mortimer were said to have occurred. He then "cried" when the family told him they were moving states. When she received the report from Ancestry.com in July 2017 connecting her to Mortimer, she dismissed the results as a mistake.

"Dr. Mortimer knew Kelli Rowlette was his biological daughter but did not disclose this to Ms. Ashby or Mr. Fowler", the complaint said.

Gizmodo notes that, upon receipt of the results of the ancestry test, Ms Rowlette was baffled by the inclusion of Gerald Mortimer, but she didn't know who he was right off the bat. "Mr. Fowler was also devastated by the news", the lawsuit reads.

Meanwhile, Rowlette was unaware of what transpired until October, when she found old paperwork at Fowler's house. Though the name was foreign to her, horrifyingly to Rowlette's parents, it was a name that they recognized nearly all too well.

Ancestry.com is out here changing people's lives-but it's not always for the better. "We are committed to delivering the most accurate results, however with this, people may learn of unexpected connections".

In May of 1981, Fowler and Ashby welcomed a baby girl, a child who Mortimer delivered himself.

"With Ancestry, customers maintain ownership and control over their DNA data", the statement continued.
