Amid reports of local Congress MLC and MLA likely to join the BJP soon, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson and local MP Sonia Gandhi would be on a two-day visit to her constituency from Tuesday.

On Monday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fast-track cases of rapes of minors and punish the guilty if he was serious about providing justice to the "country's daughters". "Rahul Gandhi is the representative and the Congress will engage with those ticket aspirants, pacify them and would make them part of future government in the state of Karnataka and I am sure they will have a smiling face once again", he said.

"This shows the mindset of Rahul Gandhi towards Hindus".

Afterwards, he would inaugurate Thauri-Kotava Road built under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna.

Jaiveer Shergill cited an American Embassy note of 2005, released by Wikileaks in which Arun Jaitley argued that Hindu nationalism will always be a talking point for the BJP and characterised this as an "opportunistic issue". "Rahul Gandhi will be invited to that programme and, if he wants, he can attend it", BJP's district unit president Uma Shankar Pandey said.

When contacted, PMGSY's Executive Engineer K.K. Srivastava said the road is still incomplete and can not be inaugurated till it's built completely.
