After learning neither officer would be charged with federal crimes, dozens of people held a peaceful vigil outside the convenience store where Sterling was shot.

Racial tensions were still simmering in Louisiana's capital when a 29-year-old black military veteran shot and killed three Baton Rouge law enforcement officers on July 17, 2016.

Salamoni tackled Sterling to the ground.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said that the officers tried "several non-lethal techniques" when dealing with Sterling.

Earlier in the day, Louisiana's attorney general ruled out criminal charges against the officers in the July 2016 death of Alton Sterling.

Louisiana's attorney general plans to meet Tuesday (March 27) with relatives of Alton Sterling, the black man who was shot and killed by a white Baton Rouge police officer, to inform them whether his office will charge either of the two officers involved in the deadly struggle, according to two family lawyers.

The officers dodged federal civil rights charges in May 2017 after a lengthy Justice Department investigation.

Landry made the announcement at a news conference after meeting with family members of Sterling.

They encountered the father of five outside the mart selling bootleg CDs like he always did locals said.

Englishman Quigg has his sights set on the Mexican's featherweight title as the pair come together at California's StubHub Center. Could Joshua go to UFC and make a hell of a lot of money? "With that fight, we have it playing in the gym every day in training".

Paul said they will review Landry's decision and provided the next steps in the case at this point. He added: "I know the Sterling family is hurting". "I know that they may not agree with the decision". He said the evidence available to state investigators showed that the officers had not acted outside the bounds of the law.

Landry did not take any questions from reporters.

The officers "had reason to believe [Sterling] was armed with a firearm and was continuously resisting", Landry said. Officer Howie Lake II helped wrestle Sterling to the ground, but Lake didn't fire his gun.

Since 2005, 85 non-federal law enforcement officers - a group that includes police officers, state troopers and deputy sheriffs - have been arrested for murder or manslaughter after fatally shooting someone while on-duty, according to Philip Stinson, a criminologist at Bowling Green State University in OH, who studies arrests of officers and has kept data since that year.

Two cellphone videos of the shooting quickly spread on social media, leading to nightly protests during which almost 200 people were arrested.

"We will hold a news conference where we will release video footage from all body cameras, store surveillance, and vehicle cams".

Federal authorities opened a civil rights investigation immediately after the shooting and released their findings in May 2017.

Upon review of the evidence, Landry said Salamoni and Lake reacted understandably considering the circumstances the officers were under at the time of the shooting. Disturbing footage revealed Sterling being pinned down by two white police officers, where he was shot shortly thereafter. As a convicted felon, Sterling could not legally carry a gun. Salamoni can be heard saying loudly before firing three rounds into Sterling's chest. "Officer Salamoni reported that he saw the gun coming out and attempted to grab it, but Sterling jerked away and attempted to grab the gun again".
