Schiff: House Intel 'United' That Bannon Should Answer All Their Questions

Steve Bannon more likely to defy subpoena, keep away from testifying earlier than Home Russia probe Key US Democrat suggests contempt proceedings for Bannon
Stacy Houston | 08 February, 2018, 00:59

Monday evening, Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, the Republican leading the panel's Russian Federation probe, told reporters he expected Bannon to appear.

US Representative Adam Schiff said the House of Representatives committee's subpoena remained in effect and Bannon's interview has been rescheduled for next week.

Bannon was present in the White House during periods Mueller may be investigating for a possible obstruction of justice charge, and he also shopped opposition research showing Trump's links to the mafia before joining his Republican presidential campaign in 2016. One of the sources said the White House had not authorized Bannon to answer committee questions.

The White House is reviewing the Democratic memo.

Amanda Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for Rep. Trey Gowdy of SC, says the committee extended the deadline on Bannon's subpoena until next Tuesday.

Congressman Mike Conaway, the Texas Republican leading the panel's investigation into Russian interference into the 2016 US presidential election, said he had expected Bannon to appear to answer questions, but Bannon was a no-show, part of lawmakers' ongoing dispute with the White House over the scope of their questioning of Bannon.

Republicans on the committee, including Peter King of NY, said they agreed Lewandowski should be given time to prepare for questions he might not have anticipated. This is the third time the committee has had to delay Bannon's testimony after his initial appearance last month.

Moscow denies meddling in the presidential election, and Trump denies any collusion between his associates and Moscow.

Mr Azad said that his speech was shown only for eight seconds and eight seconds were given for other leaders of the Opposition. The action came after two brief adjournments of the house as Ramesh didn't leave the house despite being named by Kurien.

The Intelligence Committee and the White House have not resolved the question of whether executive privilege would apply in Bannon's case.

That source noted Bannon is willing to discuss "anything and everything" with special counsel Robert Mueller.

That's according to two people familiar with Bannon's interview. "But, Bannon is not the one to assert executive privilege - only the president can do that", Gerhardt told Business Insider.

Bannon is expected to face questions about key events during his time in the White House including Trump's firings of former National Security adviser Michael Flynn and former FBI Director James Comey.

The White House and the president's legal team have not responded to requests for comment.

Trump has repeatedly denied allegations concerning his campaign's ties with Russian Federation.

Committee members from both parties have denounced the White House's prohibitions, and stated that they could hold Bannon in contempt of Congress.
