African National Congress (ANC) leader and South Africa deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa, on Sunday revealed at the launch of the Mandela centenary celebrations in Cape Town that he was employing the late statesman's strategy of being "careful" when dealing with hard matters.

Ramaphosa was at Mandela's side, holding a microphone, when the leader addressed thousands outside Cape Town's city hall on the same day 28 years ago after his release.

He argued that the matter needed to be resolved so that Ramaphosa could be elected by the National Assembly and deliver the State of the Nation address ahead of the tabling of the 2018 national Budget, which is set for February 21.

An ANC official in the Western Cape province said the schedule changes related to the party's push to force Zuma to stand down.

"We all know and anticipate that they are dealing with the current issue that is facing our country", Faiez Jacobs, the party's provincial secretary, told eNCA television.

South Africa's president-in-waiting Cyril Ramaphosa has said negotiations should be concluded within days.

"This is a challenging time for our country", Ramaphosa said Wednesday.

Zuma's spokesman did not respond to calls seeking comment.

Ramaphosa met with Zuma on Tuesday, after he refused to step down during a meeting with the top six on Sunday.

Zuma's wife Tobeka Madiba-Zuma posted a picture on her Instagram account, @firstladytzuma, showing her and the president inside what appears to be a plane. It is not clear when the picture was taken.

The spacecraft is also making nearly continuous measurements of the plasma, dust and neutral-gas environment during its journey. Kuiper Belt is a disc-shaped region beyond Neptune that extends from about 30 to 55 astronomical units from the Sun.

Zuma's family said Madiba-Zuma's remarks were "unfortunate".

He also saluted "such freedom fighters as Sheik Yusuf, Dr Abdullah Abdurahman, Cissy Gool, Alex La Guma, ZR Mahabane, Oscar Mpetha, Philip Kgosana, Ray Alexander, Dora Tamana, John Mtini, Reg September, Dullah Omar, Ben Turok, Annie Silinga, Essa Moosa, Johnny Issel, Jakes Gerwel, Archie Sibeko, Ashley Kriel and many others who were drawn from Cape Town".

Replying to a follower who asks whether it will be ugly, she writes that her husband did not alternate 'between the struggle and wealth accumulation.

Unlike Zuma, Ramaphosa was not driven into exile for opposing apartheid, which some of the party's more hardline members hold against him.

Just before Ramaphosa dealt with the "transition", he promised a "relentless war on corruption", which the crowd received with applause.

"Nelson Mandela's objective in whatever he did was to see people of South Africa united".

The rally is part of ANC celebrations marking 100 years since Mandela's birth, as Ramaphosa tries to revive the party's tarnished reputation.

Ramaphosa, 65, joined Zuma's Cabinet as deputy in 2014 and replaced the president as head of the African National Congress in December, providing political cover for his increasing attacks on corruption at top levels of government.

The Guptas and Zuma have denied any wrongdoing.
