Man who set off bombs in NYC, NJ gets prison

Isis bomber claims 'I don't hate anyone' as he is jailed for life A courtroom drawing of Ahmad Khan Rahimi taken as he was sentenced to life for multiple bomb attacks Tuesday

The man who carried out bombings in Seaside Park and in New York City in 2016 has been sentenced to multiple life prison terms.

"I grew up amongst you guys, when I started following (my religion), practicing it".

In his 15-minute address to the court, Rahimi not once apologized for the bombing.

U.S. District Judge Richard Berman said Rahimi had offered no explanation for his behaviour that would warrant imposing less than the two life sentences, one of which was mandated by federal law.

Ahmad Khan Rahimi, an Afghan immigrant who became radicalized through online postings by al Qaeda and ISIS, had faced at least one mandatory life sentence since a jury convicted him in October on eight counts, including use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Defense attorney Xavier Donaldson called it ironic that his client had once aspired to be a police officer and worked as a security guard after studying criminal justice at a community college. He said consecutive life sentences would not "show the world justice".

"(Another inmate) asked me how are we going to watch the news and I told him I don't need to watch the news because I am the news", Rahimi allegedly told a family member in a jailhouse phone call, while he was on trial.

Wild prospect Jordan Greenway scored his first Olympic goal in an already historic night for the Boston University junior. Jan Urbas first broke through for Slovenia, cutting the Americans lead to 2-1 with 15 minutes remaining in the game.

"Since his arrest, Mr. Rahimi has completed classes in business, entrepreneurship and drama while in BOP (Federal Bureau of Prisons) custody", the letter said.

"He failed", said New York Police Department Commissioner James O'Neill.

Rahimi, prosecutors said, gave inmates copies of terrorist propaganda and jihadist materials, including speeches and lectures by al-Qaida founder Osama bin Laden and Anwar al-Awlaki, a USA -born cleric who inspired attacks on America and was killed in a US airstrike in September 2011.

This story corrects to show the location of the New Jersey pipe bombing explosion was in Seaside Park, not Seaside Heights. A second pressure cooker bomb was found a few blocks away, on 27th Street, but it didn't detonate.

Pauline Nelson, a mother of four who was driving near the bomb when it went off, shot Rahimi daggers as she railed against his courtroom demeanor.

"Rahimi's conviction and sentencing are victories for New York City and our nation in the fight against terror".
