House panel scheduled to interview Bannon

Get Ready For Another Week Of Memo Madness — This Time Over Democrats' Response What the FBI/FISA Memo Really Tells Us About Our Government
Ray Hunter | 07 February, 2018, 02:03

The White House has said that if the House Intelligence Committee votes to declassify the Democrats' rival memo, "we would entertain it like anything else".

Trump says on Twitter Monday: "Little Adam Schiff, who is desperate to run for higher office, is one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington, right up there with Comey, Warner, Brennan and Clapper!"

"To say that that's the end of the investigation, that this is all that (President) Donald Trump needs to fire (Deputy Attorney General Rod) Rosenstein or to fire (special counsel Robert) Mueller, I'll just tell you, this could precipitate a constitutional crisis", Senator Dick Durbin told CNN on Sunday.

Schiff is the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee and said he expects the panel to approve the release of a Democrat-written memo that details some of what has taken place regarding the Russian Federation probe.

The assumption at the White House is that Trump won't stand in the way of the Democratic memo's release, but White House officials are also warning against predicting how a characteristically mercurial President will decide the Democratic memo's fate once he has read it. "And we think this will be very useful information for the American people to see". But the timing on a decision has yet to be determined, the White House official said, and could be adjusted depending on the news cycle. "I've served shoulder to shoulder with them and they are hard-working folks that keep us safe", said Rep.

The long-hyped Republican memo on the Russian Federation investigation resolved nothing - although it did offer an ominous glimpse of the fracture that awaits in the nation's politics when special counsel Robert Mueller wraps up his probe. But over the weekend at least three Republicans on the committee signaled their intentions to send the memo to Trump's desk. The memo also omits that Page had been on the FBI's radar a few years earlier as part of a separate counterintelligence investigation into Russian influence. It discusses how the FISA warrants to target Page were based largely on information from a list of unproven allegations about Trump that were compiled by a former British intelligence agent paid by Democrats.

The onus was on Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla to bat for a long period especially with an inexperienced middle order to follow. So did the calm and composed Rahane who scored his fifth consecutive half-century in ODIs.

After the memo was released, Nunes seized on one of Trump's talking points to claim "there was no collusion", getting ahead of the special counsel's investigation and its conclusions.

The Republican member of the House Intelligence committee has received much criticism thanks to his memo, from Democrats, the media and the intelligence community itself.

Many Republicans used the memo to close ranks around Trump.

It's smaller because it revolves around a relatively minor figure in the Trump-Russia affair, Carter Page, a former volunteer who was not even with the campaign when the Federal Bureau of Investigation asked a secret court to surveil him in the weeks before the election.

Nunes was asked during a January 29 committee meeting whether he had coordinated the memo with the White House.

Republicans on the Intel Committee last week blocked a Democratic move to release both memos at the same time, but had signaled that they were open to releasing the Dem memo once it went through the same process of classification review that the Republican memo did. "I think the Republican members understood that after calling for full transparency, they were getting hammered over the course of the week for trying to hide the minority response", the ranking Democrat on the committee, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., told reporters after the committee vote. The White House cleared the Republican memo for declassification within four days of receiving it.
