During the third period of Chicago's 7-1 win, Smith-Pelly was in the penalty box when a small group chanted "basketball" at him, because Smith-Pelly is black.

The National Hockey League (NHL) reacted with condemnation on Sunday after Washington Capitals player Devante Smith-Pelly was racially abused during his team's road game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Smith-Pelly confronted the fans through the glass, and all four were ejected by arena security.

"Racist comments and other inappropriate behavior are not tolerated by the Chicago Blackhawks", the Blackhawks said in a statement.

Duclair said he didn't feel he had the voice to speak out when he was younger and that he kept his encounters with racism mostly to himself.

Trotz added that Smith-Pelly was upset about the incident. "It just shows ignorance", Trotz said after the game. "I mean, it's obviously a white sport and you just want to go out there and compete and do what you love everyday".

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy", once said Martin Luther King Jr.

He also mentioned that it was sad that we're still talking about this same issue in 2018. Several fans were eventually removed from the arena.

He further stated, "You would think there'd be some change after some years especially when we came out with the ad 'Hockey is for Everyone, '" he said.

BIG trade rumor coming out of St. Louis today. The rumored deal would send 3 roster players, one of which is Max Pacioretty, to St. Louis in return for Jaden Schwartz and a draft pick.

My response to that: instead of defaulting to complaining about things being "too politically correct" (which, to be fair, they sometimes can seem that way), stop to think about whether what you're saying or projecting to another person might actually be offensive.
