Raiders fire Del Rio, reportedly courting Jon Gruden

After signing a contract extension last offseason, Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio has been fired.

Del Rio was sacked just one year after leading the team to a 12-4 record and the Raiders' first playoff berth in well over a decade.

The Oakland Raiders finished off their 2017 National Football League season by getting the doors blown off of them 30-10 at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Unable to maintain their momentum from last season - they were quickly eliminated from the playoffs, after a late-season injury to Derek Carr rendered him unavailable - the Raiders had a disappointing season in 2017, eliminated from playoff contention with two games left to play, and they finished 6-10.

Earlier on Sunday, it was reported that Gruden was vetting coordinators and former players to take spots on his coaching staff. This is a real situation to monitor, with the Raiders desperate to land Gruden after canning Del Rio and hoping that the one-time Super Bowl victor can reinvigorate the Raiders as they head to Las Vegas. Gruden was 95-81 in six seasons in Tampa Bay.

Powerball jackpot at $384M for Saturday drawing
You have a chance to make your life a lot richer as this year draws to a close, or you can wait until the day after 2018 arrives. The last time there was a Powerball jackpot victor was October 26 with a single ticket worth $191.1 million.

This was Del Rio's second try as a head coach after spending nine seasons with the Jaguars from 2003-2011.

This year...ugh. Carr wasn't great.

They were the upstarts past year and were hot going into the playoffs until Derek Carr busted his ankle.

But Del Rio's decision to fire coordinator Bill Musgrave after last season despite a dynamic offense and replace him with quarterbacks coach Todd Downing backfired.
