More than 500 people have been killed in clashes between Fulani herdsmen and Benue communities over the past four years.

"Let there be peace". Idris, in a press conference at Abuja, had referred to the killings as the effect of a communal clash in the state.

"The federal government has made some efforts but I am not satisfied with the efforts".

"Politics is no magic, governance is no magic, it is through performance", the OPC leader said.

Several persons have been killed in recent attacks orchestrated by herdsmen in some states, including Benue and Taraba.

It is a sight that has become commonplace in areas where the free-killing herdsmen have had the misfortune of setting their foot.

"What is happening in Benue and other states in the North-Central is an issue on which President Buhari must have to take decisive steps". He said federal authorities knew their identities and location but were dithering on bringing them to book.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola has called on Nigerians to pray for the speedy recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari's son, Yusuf.

He said the force had deployed 660 personnel from some units to complement the security architecture in Benue. After a meeting with the governor and other stakeholders on Wednesday, Mr. Idris said he did not receive the early warning notifications by the governor but promised to investigate it.

Some of the speakers - including Chief Edward Ujege representing the three Socio cultural groups, Terrence Kwaghnongu representing the youths and Mrs. Rebecca Apedzan representing the women - insisted that only the military, and not the police, can curtail the herdsmen attacks in Benue. They were neither disarmed nor turned back. Even as governor, most times, I am not with my phone; people can not access me the way it used to be, talk less of a President.

"The full weight of the law will be applied on anyone arrested for being responsible for the mayhem in the affected areas in the state.

He was killed along with some of his other confederates", Adesina said.

On Nov. 26, 2017, over 500 people were missing following a suspected herdsmen attack on a Tiv community in the state. The organisation insists the killings, which have caused over 70 deaths, were not done by herdsmen.

The annual cost of the conflict between pastoralists and villagers across the country was placed at about $14 billion by the UK-funded global humanitarian agency, Mercy Corps.

"What I have seen here is far beyond the report we received", he said.

"You can not just be carrying everybody".

"What is stopping them from going after these men now?"

Fighting has been particularly heavy in Benue state, where 80 people have been killed and 80,000 displaced.

"Why should Benue people wait until the thing calms down?"

A police man who survived the attack told Blueprint that the herdsmen were in large number.
