Author stands over content of book Trump tried to stop

Donald Trump Trump book will 'bring down' the President, claims author Michael Wolff

His explosive new book on U.S. President Donald Trump is drawn from what he said was regular access to the West Wing and more than 200 interviews, including with Trump.

The website collected more than a dozen anecdotes from Wolff's book, which has infuriated Trump so much that aides are simply avoiding him.

Wolff spoke to BBC radio about Fire and Fury, mentioning that the book's conclusion is focused on how he believes Mr Trump's inability to do the job is becoming ever clear.

Sanders said there was a "very short phone conversation" but there was no "interview about the book", accusing Wolff of falsely making it seem as if he was outside the Oval Office every day. "That's the background to the perception and the understanding that will finally end ... this presidency".

The author also said that in issuing a "cease and desist" letter via his lawyers, Mr Trump was helping both to sell copies of the book and also to prove the point of the book. "He used Sloppy Steve Bannon, who cried when he got fired and begged for his job".

The break between Trump and Bannon, who had bonded over their shared nationalist beliefs and anti-establishment populism, apparently caused further problems for Bannon. Stating he didn't authorize access to the White House to Wolff, the book was filled with lies and calling Bannon, 'Sloppy Steve'.

Bannon and Breitbart will work together on a smooth and orderly transition, the news site added. Asked if Trump was also an anti-Semite, Wolff did not answer directly.

They include assertions that Trump never wanted to be president, that all of his senior staff considered him an idiot, that he tried to lock the Secret Service out of his room, and that he ate at McDonald's to avoid being poisoned. I've had no reason to question his mental fitness.

The White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, described the book as "complete fantasy".

"I'd like to associate myself with what the president had to say about Steve Bannon yesterday", he said mischievously on Thursday.

"Many of the accounts of what has happened in the Trump White House are in conflict with one another; many, in Trumpian fashion, are baldly untrue".
